‘In you, Lord my God, I put my trust. ‘ Psalm 25:1 NIV
Trust: assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something; one in which confidence is placed; believe; depend Merriam Webster Online Dictionary, 4/30/2020
‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. ‘ Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
I truly wished I had learned and understood this verse when I was young. My life would have been different. Don’t get me wrong, I love where I am now in my life with my children and grandchildren. But there were so many times I did not listen to God and went down the wrong path. After struggles and learned lessons, He did keep nudging me toward the path He had laid out for me.
‘Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I trust your commands. ‘ Psalms 119:66
The follow hymn is one of my favorites. I am sure you can find it on YouTube to hear it set to music. Sometimes, during the day, I like to repeat the refrain just to help me reset. “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way; To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”
Hymn Lyrics: John H. Sammis, 1846-1919 Hymn Music: Daniel B. Towner, 1850-1919
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.
But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
