This morning at the gym, I faced a wall while on the stair stepper emblazoned with the words “Don’t Look Back”. As I persevered through my workout, I became aware of the numerous times I had looked back: dwelling on past mistakes, my sporadic gym attendance, actions I should have taken yesterday, and my shortcomings in following Jesus Christ.
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. Isaiah 43:18
I question why I continuously dwell on past mistakes when God has already forgiven them. Isn’t this an offense in itself? God forgives our sins when we ask for it. Once forgiven, we should release and move on from them. Avoid fixating on sins that have already been pardoned. Don’t Look Back!
But if a wicked person turns away from all the sins they have committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, that person will surely live; they will not die. None of the offenses they have committed will be remembered against them. Because of the righteous things they have done, they will live. Ezekiel 18:21-22
I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more. Isaiah 43:25
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
