Not that I am a fashionista, but I do have certain types of clothes I like to wear for specific occasions.

Going to the beach? A swimsuit, sun hat and a cover up are appropriate attire. Going hiking? A good pair of boots with heavy socks is definitely a wise choice. Going for errands in the rain? A raincoat with waterproof shoes makes for a dryer trip.

This concept does not just apply to clothing. I like to work in the garden, and I use a small trowel to dig in the dirt when planting bulbs, seeds, or small plants. However, if I needed to plant a nice azalea bush, it would be easier to use a shovel. Digging a bigger hole with a shovel is much easier than using the trowel.

Having the correct tool for a job makes it easier. Wearing the appropriate clothes and shoes for a certain activity can be more comfortable. But what about the tools for life? How do we know what tool we need for different situations? Where do we look for guidance?

God has given us all the tools we need. We have the Bible for guidance.

Just a few examples:

Anxious: Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Trust: Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Afraid / Scared: Psalm 56:3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. Temptation: 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. Hopeless: Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Jeremiah 25:11: For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future Alone: Isiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Discontentment / Restlessness: Hebrews 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. ” Gratitude: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

On Sunday, we sang a song that perfectly captured what I was struggling to express in words. True strength comes from relying on God, not human abilities. God’s Problem states that only God can fix our problems. Read the words to the song.

‘So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘ Zechariah 4:6

Do you have problems you are struggling with? Do you have issues that continue to frustrate you? Give your problems / battles to God. Invite the Holy Spirit to guide you. Ask the Living God to fight your battles.
