No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Luke 16:13
This morning, the Bible verse was Luke 16:13. I read it, thought about it and then went on with my day. I am ashamed to say, I did not spend enough time in God’s word because I had a doctor’s appointment and was short of time.
After my doctor’s appointment, I came back home, flopped down on the couch, and grabbed my phone. While browsing Amazon for bargains, I suddenly stopped and questioned myself, “What am I doing?” Had I already forgotten the Scripture from this morning? Realizing I didn’t need anything, I wondered why I was even browsing a shopping website. Shouldn’t I be seeking ways to help others instead? Feeling remorseful, I turned to God for forgiveness and found guidance in Galatians 5:13.
You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. Galatians 5:13
Throughout my day, I will actively seek opportunities to help others. Whether it’s a simple gesture like bringing my neighbor’s garbage can back from the curb or offering a bottle of water to the mail carrier during the hot June days, serving others can be done through small acts of kindness. Keep an eye out for ways to assist someone today.
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10
