I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.
Psalms 32:8‭-‬9 NIV

Have you seen a horse wearing blinders? As the name suggests, it is to “blind” or block out distractions. They help keep the horse focused on the path in front of him. I do not ride horses, however, I feel sure, if I got on a free spirited horse with no bridle, it would be a rough and dangerous ride. That is, if I stayed on. The bridle allows the rider to guide these magnificent animals.

Sometimes I feel I need blinders to keep me focused on the path God has laid out for me. It is so easy to get distracted, especially in today’s world. Should I go straight home to my family or follow my friends to a questionable party? Should I donate to a mission fund or spend that extra $20 on the latest and greatest new fad? Personally, I struggle making the correct decision. However, everyday I get up and refocus, striving to do better than the day before.

I like to read Scripture and reflect in the morning soon after I awake. Not only does it give comfort but, also, direction for what I may face that day.

Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
Psalms 25:5 NIV
