My granddaughter is 7 months old. From breast milk, she has progressed to eating pureed food. As she grows and develops, her digestive system will be able to handle different foods and textures.

In a way, this is a good approach to studying the Bible. We start by taking baby steps.

I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 1 Corinthians 3:2

Elementary: relating to or dealing with the simplest elements or principles of something. Merriam Webster Online Dictionary August 2023

In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Hebrews 5:12

In my overconfident mind, I feel I should be the teacher by now. But in my heart, I know I still have so much to learn. For that reason, I continually study God’s word, go to church and go to Bible Studies. I am still on milk but am working my way up to solid food.

Every day I choose a Bible verse to study. I read the passage, think about it and then break it down. What do the words mean? Could they have a different meaning from what the word means today? Are the words or phrases the same in our time and culture as they were when it was written?

A Simple Guided Bible Study has been extremely helpful in my daily studies. It has suggested verses in 12 categories or you can choose a verse of your own. To guide you through your study, there are four sections: the verse; definitions of words and phrases; how does the verse relate to you and your life today; your plan to apply to your life.
