As I watch my granddaughter play, I see that she is oblivious to things that might hurt her. She is 7 months old and her curious little hands want to touch everything. As parents (and grandparents) it is our job to keep her safe and she trusts us to do so. She is totally dependent on us to provide food, clothing, comfort and protect her from what will hurt her.

God does the same for us. He provides and protects us. Just like my granddaughter trusts us, we should trust God.

As adults, it is more difficult to surrender control and trust another. Read the lyrics to the song below, it sums it up much better than I.

The hymn was inspired in 1886 when the composer of the music, Daniel B. Towner (1850-1919), was the music leader during one of Dwight L. Moody’s famous revivals. “Mr. Moody was conducting a series of meetings in Brockton, Massachusetts, and I had the pleasure of singing for him there. One night a young man rose in a testimony meeting and said, ‘I am not quite sure—but I am going to trust, and I am going to obey.’ I just jotted that sentence down, and sent it with a little story to the Rev. J. H. Sammis, a Presbyterian minister. He wrote the hymn, and the tune was born.” Taken from Discipleship Ministries of the United Methodist Church website; October 22, 2023
